Why People Go Looking for an Alternative
18Birdies is the biggest name in the category and it earned that. GPS on tens of thousands of courses, hole maps, green reading, an AI caddie, strokes gained. If you want a phone that acts like a caddie, it is one of the two or three best answers.
The searches for an alternative tend to come from two places. The first is the free tier being ad-supported, and ads between holes wear thin fast. The second is simpler: a lot of golfers open it, see a course flyover and a caddie recommending a 7-iron, and realise they only ever wanted to write down a 5.
If that is you, you are not looking for a better 18Birdies. You are looking for less app.

- You play unfamiliar courses regularly and genuinely use yardages to the front, middle and back.
- You are on Android. Golf Scorecard is iOS only, so this is not even a decision.
- You want shot tracking, strokes gained or an AI caddie, none of which a scoring app does.
- You like the social side, the leaderboards and playing against friends remotely.
No point pretending otherwise. A scorecard app is not a GPS app and it never will be.
What You Actually Get Instead
Golf Scorecard is a scorecard. You set the course name and the par for each hole once, add your players, and enter strokes as you go. On Pro it runs the World Handicap System maths in the background so gross and net are both right without anyone doing arithmetic on the 18th green.
Everything lives on the phone, so it works in the dead spots where GPS apps sulk. Nothing to log into, no account, no course download before you tee off.
