Green numbers are estimates. Type your real carry over any of them and the gaps update. Untick clubs you leave at home.

It starts from two real data sets: TrackMan's average carry by club for PGA Tour players (7 iron 172 yards) and LPGA Tour players (7 iron 141 yards). Those two bags are not just scaled copies of each other. The LPGA bag is more compressed at the top, because slower speed gets less out of low loft.
The calculator places your known club between those two profiles and blends the ratios to match. Faster than tour average and it extends the tour pattern; slower than LPGA average and it compresses further. That is why a 110 yard 7 iron does not produce a 180 yard driver: the long clubs bunch up the way they really do for slower players.
The gap column then compares each club with the next one you carry. Under 7 yards is flagged as an overlap, over 18 yards as a hole. Type your real carry into any row and the gaps recalculate from your numbers instead of the estimates.
A Worked Example: 150 Yard 7 Iron
A 150 yard 7 iron is roughly a 98 mph driver swing, a little faster than the average male amateur. Here is what the calculator returns for the full bag:
| Club | Estimated carry | Gap to next |
|---|---|---|
| Driver | 234 yd | 25 yd |
| 3 wood | 209 yd | 11 yd |
| 5 wood | 198 yd | 5 yd |
| Hybrid | 193 yd | 14 yd |
| 4 iron | 179 yd | 8 yd |
| 5 iron | 171 yd | 10 yd |
| 6 iron | 161 yd | 11 yd |
| 7 iron | 150 yd | 11 yd |
| 8 iron | 139 yd | 12 yd |
| 9 iron | 127 yd | 12 yd |
| PW | 115 yd | 10 yd |
| GW | 105 yd | 12 yd |
| SW | 93 yd | 13 yd |
| LW | 80 yd |
A few things jump out. The 5 wood and the hybrid sit only 5 yards apart, so most players at this speed should carry one or the other, not both, and use the free slot where a gap hurts more. The driver to 3 wood gap is the biggest in the bag at 25 yards, which is normal: nobody needs a club for a 220 yard approach very often. The irons step about 10 yards at a time, which is what you want.
Estimates Are a Start
No formula knows your strike. The honest way to use this page is to fill in the clubs you have measured and let the estimates cover the rest. If you want averages by skill level instead of your own numbers, the golf club distance chart has them for men and women. If your gaps look wrong at the top of the bag, check the shaft before buying another club with the shaft flex calculator.
